Introduction:
This WebQuest was designed for Third grade students. Students can work individually or with a partner complete the research portion (graphic organizer) of this assignment, but should work individually for the newspaper portion (assessment) of the WebQuest.
Below are the standards that are addressed in this WebQuest:
SS3H2 The student will discuss the lives of Americans who expanded people's rights and freedoms in democracy.
a. Paul Revere (independence), Frederick Douglass (civil rights), Susan B. Anthony (women’s rights), Mary McLeod Bethune (education), Franklin D. Roosevelt (New Deal and World War II), Eleanor Roosevelt (United Nations and human rights), Thurgood Marshall (civil rights), Lyndon B. Johnson (Great Society and voting rights), and César Chávez (workers’ rights).
b. Explain social barriers, restrictions, and obstacles that these historical
figures had to overcome and describe how they overcame them.

1. You will need to learn some important facts about Paul Revere. Use your graphic organizer to help you take detailed notes. Use the questions below to help you gather information you will need for your newspaper cover page. Here are the items the editor needs for the paper:
Where and when did he live?
What was his occupation?
What did he do that made him so famous?
Why was that event so important?
What problems did he face and how did he overcome these obstacles?
What are two character traits to describe Paul Revere?
Do you think Paul Revere is really a famous American? Why?
2. Once you have gathered all the information you need about Paul Revere, you will create a newspaper cover page that includes everything important about Paul Revere. You will begin by telling basic facts about Paul Revere, summarize his famous ride and obstacles he had to overcome, and then explain why you believe Paul Revere is a famous American. Print this graphic organizer out and use it as you work your way through the WebQuest. This will help you organize you ideas for your newspaper cover page.
